Last year my clients contacted me to plan out the furnishing design for their new home. The home had recently undergone a remodel in a modern farmhouse style, and although they appreciated many aspects of the home it wasn't truly their style. The primary objective was to create a peaceful feeling throughout the main floor that echoed the homes woodland setting. We accomplished this by adding more layers, bringing in warmer materials, blending both modern and traditional elements, and using soothing colors throughout while still making each room feel unique.

Check out the before pictures of when the home was on the market and staged for sale to see where we started.

The main challenges of this home were the open concept floor plan with site lines into each room and the long, bowling alley feel along the back of the house. We addressed this by adding gorgeous wood beams along the ceiling to visually break up the space while adding to the authentic farmhouse feel. The furniture layout defines each of the spaces, gives visual interest, while also adding functional storage.

In the living room, the furniture placement helps disguise the structural supports and supports the traffic flow in and out of the room. There is ample seating to host guests and for the family to enjoy their daily routines. The woven blinds add a layer of warmth to each room and the custom window treatments frame the gorgeous views outside.

It was important to my clients that their family of four could all curl up and watch TV together in the family room, so a custom sectional to fit the space was the perfect solution and made sure the walkways in and out of the room were still functional.

One of the ways we added warmth was by bringing in brass lighting in several rooms and painted the walls a warmer shade of white to still keep it neutral. We blended new pieces of furniture with clean lines with some of the owners existing pieces, like these dining room chairs which we recovered in a beautiful stain resistant fabric. We brought in leather for its durability and to add a casual element to the home but chose colors that elevated the whole look.

We added interest to the plain white walls with a fun pattern wallpaper in the half bathroom and in the primary bath we blended beauty with function and added these cafe curtains.

We kept the accessories throughout the home simple and not too formal to stay true to the comfortable yet elegant countryside mood of the home.

Outside we focused on how they entertain to determine the best furniture layout and options, then selected a color scheme that worked with the exterior of their home.

I love how their home came together and how well the home fits their everyday life and the bigger events they host. You can check out the entire project here. If you are searching for clarity to get started or complete your project we'd love to help you! Book your discovery call and let's start turning your dreams into reality.

Warmly,
